In addition to the Peace Vigils which honor individual victims of gun violence, the Ward 4 faith leaders hold Peace Walks to address violent crime in a broader context. From time to time, our ward develops “hotspots”, areas that experience an inordinate number of violent crimes. When a neighborhood finds itself in this circumstance usually in Summer or in or around holidays, the Ward 4 Faith Leaders organize Peace Walks.
These walks are often along the Ward’s busiest corridors. At various locations where crimes occurred, the Faith leaders engage in prayer for divine intervention. Moreover, these Walks are intended to focus attention on the genesis of antisocial behavior in hopes of bringing the necessary governmental and community resources to restore calm.
