Peace Camp has begun, and the first of its three (3) week has just ended. It was the brainchild of Reverend Patricia Fears, affectionately called Reverend Patti of Fellowship Baptist Church and Reverend Renata Eustis of Christ Lutheran Church. Peace Camp is being held at both churches.
Peace Camp is about creating oneself and community in a positive nurturing environment. Peace Camp was born out of the desire to engage our young people early with values that are counter to the violence they hear and are exposed to daily. By focusing on the enhancement of self-esteem, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and antibullying, the campers will experience the opportunity to create and maintain a healthy, constructive, and balanced lifestyle. The program consists of fun activities campers will interact in activities that build social confidence and emotional intelligence with the goal of being empowered to leave the program as a better version of “self.” They will learn how to navigate through the different settings in which their “best self” may be required, while also learning of the importance of how to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion during their everyday encounters amongst peers.
There is still time left to join in the fun. If you have a young person between 9 and 11 years of age who might benefit from this type of activity, just email us at peacecamp@ward4faithleaders.com.
